Rhino Caravan
Rhino Caravan was a Long Island based band that formed in 1997 originally with just Ed Ryan and Tom Cavanagh. It started out as Ryan and Cavanagh. The duo played local bars and pubs and began writing together. Ed Ryan had previously been in the very successful bands The Underdogs and Wide Awake and Cavanagh was in Wardance at the time who were actually gigging with Wide Awake. The two found they shared an immense love for the same bands and had a vision for the kind of music they wanted to make and the kind of band they wanted to play in. In late 1997 they went into Sapone Productions Studio and recorded a few songs. They also recorded two older Ed Ryan originals and their co written song Walking in circles at another studio a few weeks later.
Soon they recruited drum master Dave Hermantin who really aided in the bands sound and direction. This move prompted Cavanagh to permanently move to lead bass! Now the duo was ready to gig and the spent the next two years playing several nights a week and blowing the minds of the local music scene and it's fans on Long Island and New York City.
The band recorded two full length albums (Self Titled and The Flask Incident) which sold a record number of copies and released a full Irish cd and two Christmas cds as well. In 1999 and again in 2000 the band released some rare tracks and live radio show cds. All the cds were more than well received by fans and critics.
Fans continue to hope for a Rhino Caravan reunion but none seems to be likely.
You can order the first 2 albums here and soon we will post the Irish cd and others if we have any left in stock. Once they are gone we will not be making more.
