The Backseat Devils
The Backseat Devils are a traditional rock and roll rockabilly band in the style of Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Brian Setzer, The Stray Cats and other great rock and rollers. The band plays originals and traditional rock and roll and rockabilly tunes.
The band formed in 2009 after Cavanagh finished a tour of stadiums, festivals and theaters and wanted to just play some old rock and roll in small venues where he could see and hear the crowd. Quickly Cavanagh wrote about twenty tunes and the band went and recorded the debut album 13 ROCK AND ROLL SONGS. The response was better than anticipated and they soon began to gig and eventually were also playing festivals and theaters. In 2011 the band released the second album THE CHROME THE SMOKE THE THUNDER AND THE SPEED. Once again fans of the band and this style jumped at it and sales soared beyond expectations. The band plays regularly and has been on the classic car circuit and 50s revival scene which they love being a part of.
In 2012 The Band had a second Christmas hit with the song Bring me a Gretsch for Christmas. This was the follow up to their 2010 song Rockin lil Christmas.
As of February 2018 the band has been back in rotation performing at events, parties and dances. On February 3rd The Backseat Devils performed as part of the Winter Dance Tribute at The Nutty Irishman in Farmingdale. In March 2018 the band will begin a run of some gigs at halls starting with the Polish American Hall in Glen Cove NY. Cavanagh also has written a new album that is much more traditional 50s dance rock and roll that you would hear at the soda shop after school in the 1950s. The first new single "Let's Go Daddy-o will be released in February.
